> PBI Nepal

PBI sends volunteers to areas of conflict to provide protective accompaniment to human rights defenders.

Protective accompaniment is a strategy pioneered by PBI for protecting human rights defenders and communities whose lives and work are threatened by political violence.

PBI is an international NGO that has been promoting nonviolence and protecting human rights since 1981.

PBI is a nonpartisan organization: we do not interfere in the affairs of the human rights defenders we accompany.

Our accompaniment has protected the lives of hundreds of activists, enabling them to carry out their work.

PBI Nepal Project

PBI has been working to support human rights defenders in Nepal since early 2006. Despite the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Accord later that year, and elections in 2008, Nepal has yet to find sustainable peace.

The country remains in limbo without an official constitution or long promised elements of the peace process, including the creation of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission and a Disappearances Commission.

Who we work with

PBI works on request with a number of individuals and organisations who, between them, cover a range of human rights issues from conflict-era human rights violations to women's rights and caste discrimination - Advocacy Forum, Conflict Victims Committee, Dalit Feminist Uplift Organisation, Devi Sunuwar, Lawyer's Forum for Human Rights.

Watch We Are Not Giving Up!

7 human rights defenders in Nepal talk about the situation for human rights, the impact the continuing lack of a constitution has and what needs to happen now, (including the role the international community can play).
